Uncle Wayne's Comics

Five decades plus as a collector, selling to the public since 2006. Some golden age, mostly silver, bronze, copper, etc. of generally higher grade collectible comics. Professional and personable service. "We only have one customer...YOU! - Wayne

Hi! Uncle Wayne here. Wayne Spencer. The store name hung on my venture by my comic loving nephew. I don't remember when I picked up my first comic but it was around the late 60's. School had taught me letters and words but I learned to read on comics. I started collecting around 1968 and have had a lot of passions since then, my wife, my children, my cars, anything that flies, but comics have always had a special place for me that nothing else can fill. When on our 3rd date, over 35 years ago, we stopped at a comic shop and I spent 30 bucks on a comic (Avengers #57 F/VF), she knew what she was in for.

From the early news stand days, to my 1st comic shop 90 miles away in junior high school, to a LCS a decade later, to subscriptions, to buying friends and acquaintances collections my collection grew until it took up most of a room. Then in 2006 I started buying and selling to the public as a sideline at a local indoor market on weekends. How's that going? Now I have 2 rooms full and it's got to go before I do. I'd like to get if down to about quarter of it, thus here I am. I haven't stopped buying, so this may take some time. If you are a collector, you understand. But I hope to become a net seller....eventually.

Understanding that grading is very subjective, and I am not a professional grader, I have offered my opinion on most books, even noting defects, but only as an aid in helping you determine the condition of an object you are not able to see first hand. What qualifies me to do this then? I've literally handled tens of thousands of comics after 50+ years as a collector and almost 20 as a reseller. I've sold to the public since 2006. I've sold on ebay for 5 years, no store now but you can see my feedback and some items as uncle_waynes. I have 100% 5 star feedback there and 100% positive feed here on HIP. So far, I've never had a customer not satisfied with my estimation. It is only offered as an aid it helping you make a decision about the quality of a comic you are considering. Ultimately your opinion and satisfaction is all that matters because here at Uncle Wayne's, the way we operate, we only have 1 customer, YOU!

Oh! Almost forgot, I worked 15 years as a proof press tech at R. R. Donnelley & Sons, Co. The oldest commercial printer in the U.S. at the time. I ran 4 and 5 color rotogravure printing presses putting real ink on real paper and pulling proofs for national and international customers to approve for the production presses in the pressroom. We didn't print comics, just catalogs (where people ordered stuff before the internet) but one of our other facilities did. I got a Joe Jusko autographed proof print when they ran the Marvel trading cards in 90's. During those years, i spent a lot of time looking at paper and ink closely, through a printer's magnifying glass. So I have some experience on both sides of the book, so to speak.

When I first started collecting, it was nothing but fun. I remember trading a couple of books and a quarter for a comic that now trades for hundreds. So it has now become big business. Serious business. Well, like most everyone I take business seriously but this is a fun one. So if you decide to do a little business with me, I promise to do my best to make it fun!

Thank you for taking the time to read and peruse my store. Hope you have a great day!

Wayne
