Item Description
By the time issue #71 of the Silver Age GREEN LANTERN rolled around, Hal Jordan had left Coast City and his job as a test pilot and was roaming the West Coast as a TOY Salesman!! A rather unique secret identity for a space-faring superhero! It's got another ingeniously creative script from one of GREEN LANTERN's best Silver Age writers - John Broome - and beautifully dynamic illustrations by the incredible Gil Kane.In "The City That Died!", while showing off some of the toys his company sells to a group of school children, Hal Jordan is told by the school's principal that they don't have enough money to build a new school house. Hal wonders if there isn't something he can do to help the school raise money to build a new building.
As Hal tries to find lodging for the night in town, he is shocked to find that the city has undergone a sudden black out. Stranger still, all the cars in the area have stalled, including his own. Deciding to try and solve the mystery, Hal changes into GREEN LANTERN and creates a generator to supply the city's energy needs until he can solve the problem. But Hal is horrified to find that the people of the town are now dropping dead! Tunneling far below the surface, he finds the source of the disruption, cancels it out and restores the town to life!.
The next day, Hal learns that he is granted a reward as GREEN LANTERN for saving the city and tells the mayor to turn it over to the school to help with their funding for a new school house.
Broome also handles the back-up story, "Hip Jordan Makes The Scene!", a 'Jordan Brothers' story. 'Hip' Jordan, the black sheep of the family, comes to a family reunion and thinks he has stumbled on Green Lantern's secret identity, which he tries to use for his own advantage.
This is a great-looking 53-year old Silver Age GREEN LANTERN -- no creases, tears, pieces missing, or abnormal toning. The binding is strong, and the colors are bright! We grade this an 8.0 VF. . . which Overstreet values at $34 . . . but we're pricing it at just $24 . . with our always-L•O•W shipping!
In Brightest Day . . get the best of Broome and Kane in one terrific bargain, or you'll find yourself . . In Blackest Night!
