Item Description
You get both earth-bound and deep space intrigue and adventure from one of GREEN LANTERN's best Silver Age writers in this issue - John Broome . . with 2 stories beautifully and dynamically illustrated by the incredible Gil Kane!In "Green Lantern's Statue Goes To War!" , Hal Jordan finds a strange bit of metal in his hair, and finds that it's like no metal on Earth. GREEN LANTERN muses over this mystery and a past incident in which his power ring ran out of power before it's 24 hour period. Little does he know he had just returned from yet another adventure as "POL MANNING" in the year 5700 AD!
In a flashback, we see that Hal had been transported to the distant future and been implanted with the "POL MANNING" memories, and told of 3 Generals massing their armies to attack the main Solarite city. GREEN LANTERN is able to mobilize an army of his own and turn back the 3 Generals. It turns out there was an evil mastermind behind the Generals' attack who has learned how to incapacitate the power ring . . but GL is able to animate a POL MANNING statue to defeat the malevolent magician, and is returned to his own time.
In the back-up feature, "Zero Hour in the Silent City", Hal is out on a date with Carol Ferris and on their way back -- as the 24 hour charge in his power ring was beginning to run out soon -- he finds that all the sound in the immediate area has stopped. Changing into GREEN LANTERN, he finds some crooks who are using a silencer device to hide the noise of the drill they are using to break into a safe. GREEN LANTERN then is able to stop the crooks with his power ring just moments before it runs out of power.
* This is the first issue to feature Tom Kalmaku's Casebook.
