They are both part of a larger story arc, which involves the kidnapping of Iceman and Lorna dane by Mesmero, who enhances Lorna's mutant powers to a level where he deems her 'Magneto's Daughter' and 'Queen of the X-Men'! The X-MEN storm Mesmero's Mutant City, battling his minions to free their comrades, only to learn the MAGNETO is still alive. At the cusp of victory, the X-MEN are shocked to see Lorna Dane help her father escape, and they regroup to plan Magneto's downfall.

The back-up feature in both issues tells the 'origin' and early events in the life of BEAST, focusing on a cabal that kidnaps young Hank McCoy to further their own agenda!

These are two nice copies of Steranko's complete run on X-MEN! There are really no glaring or obvious faults - just the overall fatigue of two 53-year old comics!
