Here, from 1978, is the first 'new' X-MEN multi-issue storyline with JOHN BYRNE at the artistic reins! Along with writer CHRIS CLAREMONT and inker TERRY AUSTIN, they set Marveldom on its ear with their creative efforts in late 1967, the collaboration which is often considered igniting a "golden age" for the title and one of the most legendary writer/artist teams in comic book history!

Issues #111 through #113 comprise a tale of entertainment and jeopardy, as the X-MEN team comes under the hypnotic influence of MESMERO, and are made to believe that they are carnival side show 'freaks', performing in small Texas villages. But former X-Man BEAST happens upon them and tries to revert them to the consciousness of their heroic identities.

Just as they all manage to break the bonds of MESMERO's hold on them, MAGNETO appears and subdues them anew. He manages to transport them to his new headquarters under a volcano in Antarctica, and causes them all to revert to childlike helplessness, and shackles them in a 'nursery' with a robot Nanny watching over them!

By issue #113, the X-MEN escape their prison chairs and face down MAGNETO himself. During the fight, the controls of MAGNETO's secret base are destroyed, filling the whole place with lava. PHOENIX saves BEAST, but the rest of the team are apparently trapped in the molten fire deep beneath the snows of Antarctica!

Claremont expertly weaves equal parts character drama, and thrilling action, while Byrne and Austin provide the exciting and appealing visuals!

These are three wonderfully fresh and pristine copies from this iconic era in X-MEN lore, with no faults or blemishes that we can see! A worthy 8.0 VF rating for 46-year old comics!
