1948 saw the explosive rise of Western-themed comics after readers became tired of the superhero exploits that predominated during WWII. 'WESTERN COMICS' was DC's first foray into the genre, and became its longest-running Western title, being published for 85 issues from 1948 to 1961. It was an anthology series, featuring such characters as the wandering cowboy the Wyoming Kid, the Cowboy Marshal, Jim Sawyer, showman Rodeo Rick, and the masked Vigilante ,Greg Saunders.

This second issue of WESTERN COMICS contains 4 stories featuring some of its best known characters in its 52 pages - The Wyoming Kid with art by Howard Sherman, Rodeo Rick by Howie Post, Vigilante by Mort Meskin, and The Cowboy Marshal by Ed Smalle Jr.

This is an exceptionally sharp-looking copy of this 73-year old comic -- the colors are unusually bright, the pages supple, the binding strong, and no creases, tears or stress lines to be found! The only blemish is the smal, nearly unrecognizable writing on the cover. It may not be quite an 8.0, but it's better than a 7.5 -- we'll call it a 7.75 VF++. Overstreet would assign a value of $188 . . . but at $105 we'll call it a square deal, Pard'nuh!
