WEIRD FANTASY was a dark fantasy and science fiction anthology comic that was part of the EC Comics line in the early 1950s. The companion comic for WEIRD FANTASY was Weird Science. Over a four-year span, WEIRD FANTASY ran for 22 issues, ending with the November–December 1953 issue.

Here in issue #13 from 1952 are four solidly entertaining Science Fiction stories. All came from the pen of writer (and cover artist) AL FELDSTEIN. In "The End!", future humans are sterile and so they attempt to bring some women back from the past, but their time platform ends up materializing in the Grand Central Station Men's room!

It was the Feldstein story "Home to Stay", illustrated by Wally Wood, that caused famous author RAY BRADBURY to contact EC about their plagiarism of his work. They reached an agreement for EC to do authorized versions of Bradbury's short fiction.

This is the issue that contains the infamous and highly critical letter from Mrs. Arlene Grandon Phelan about the adverse effects of EC comics on youth, which prompted a long reply from "The Editors" - really William C. Gaines in a dress rehearsal of sorts for his combative appearance before the US Congress!

This copy of WEIRD SCIENCE #5 is in lovely condition, with a strong binding and the degree of toning you would expect to see in a 69 year old comic. Blemishes include a small tear in the margin of an interior page, and a general limpness. Nothing marring the great interior art, though. We're conservatively grading it at 6.5 FN+, which Overstreet values at $155. We're offering it for just $120! It's the only Golden Age copy available here on HipComic!
