WATCHMEN was a hugely popular, commercial and critical success for DC comics when it hit newsstands in 1987. Its gritty realism and intricate storytelling were unlike anything seen before. The British press hailed it as "the moment that comics grew up".

Crafted by British writer ALAN MOORE and his countryman and illustrator DAVE GIBBONS, it told a dark tale reflecting contemporary anxieties, of deconstructing and satirizing the superhero concept, and of making political commentary. Originally crafted by Moore to use DC's recent acquisition of CHARLTON heroes, the focus was changed to using original superheroes (so that the Charlton characters could be continued to be featured in DC comics, rather than having them meet their deadly fates as originally written!).

The original 12 monthly issues, intricately choreographed and full of hidden 'Easter Eggs’, were combined into this 420-page trade paperback, that also includes extra commentary and analysis, as well as character insights by the creators.

This copy - a FIRST PRINTING of an edition that went into 27 reprintings! - is in terrific condition for its age of 37 years - the covers are mirror-smooth and the page edges are without the slightest flaw. The spine is still perfectly squared.
