Item Description
In 1949 DELL COMICS started experimenting with considerably-larger comic books with square bindings, generally around 112 pages of content - and the move proved popular and profitable even at the then-high price of 25¢! They called them DELL GIANTS. In late 1952, DELL issued their biggest comic book ever - the 212 page WALT DISNEY'S PETER PAN TREASURE CHEST. And even at 50¢ it was a big seller, based on the PETER PAN animated feature that had hit movie screens just a few months earlier. As OVERSTREET notes, the size and popularity of this comic resulted in it being passed around for reading a lot and handled so often that very few issues remain in conditions of VG/FN or above. That is the case with this copy - sadly the front cover is detached . . . but the interior pages are in good shape and a joy to read!
It has cover-to-cover artwork and stories, with a 54-page retelling of the film's story by famed Disney artist Al Hubbard, 10 stories of varying lengths focusing on specific characters from the film, and 14 pages of text stories and activities, all illustrated by a Who's Who of great Disney comic book artists: Jack Bradbury, Dick Moores, Al Hubbard, Bob Moore, and Harvey Eisenberg! Every page will bring a smile to your face if you loved this movie!
This is a typically well-read and -enjoyed copy of this heavy 69-year-old comic. It's too bad its condition isn't better . . but the separated cover is really the only major fault. There is a small area where the cardstock cover paper is missing from the top of the spine, and many interior pages have nibbled corners. There are a few very tiny tears. The first page alone is loose.
It has a strong binding and minimal toning, supple pages, and bright colors! Even a nice gloss to the covers - which admittedly have a few creases and stress lines, front and back. We are concurring with the auctioneer's experienced grading of a 2.5 GD+ . . for which the Overstreet Guide gives this landmark issue a value of $175 . . . But our price is just $50, which puts this great comic in your hands at the very lowest price on HipComic!
And we'll top it off with FREE SHIPPING!
