There's too little scepticism at work, as our student hero, Mike, accepts in a flash that his dying father isn't his 'real' father, and that the Bildenberg-like group of superfinanciers are out to get him. LaBan writes like we can't handle anything very complicated, although there are some deft touches of student dialogue. Mike sets out to find his lost sister in Russia and, after falling foul of some rock'n'roll-obsessed militia crossing Serbia, stumbles uon a cult of White Russians who've built a new city under Moscow, where they're growing the foetus of Czar Nicholas III with the help of the midget, Siamese-twin descendant of Rasputin. On paper it sounds like a ridiculous piss-take, and it's like that when you read it, too. Ilya illustrates this ludicrousness with aplomb, turning in clean, cartoony artwork and concentrating on getting expressions right. He is surprisingly well-suited to drawing panoramic scenes of urban life and destruction, although he falls back on a 1960s cliche for Mike's drug experience.
