Item Description

TUROK is a fictional character who first appeared in DELL comic books published by Western Publishing. He first appeared in Four Color Comics #596 (Oct 1954). After a second Four Color appearance, the character graduated to his own title – TUROK, SON OF STONE (#3 May 1956) - published by both Dell and then Gold Key Comics from 1956 to 1982.

Subsequently, he appeared in titles published by Dark Horse Comics, Dynamite Comics, and VALIANT - the publisher of these first four issues of its own run with the character from 1993 to 1996. VALIANT revamped TUROK, changing the concept and setting to the 18th century and TUROK to a Native American. The isolated valley he roamed became "the Lost Lands" - a land where demons, dinosaurs and aliens flourished and where "time has no meaning".

These first four issues introduce us to a displaced TUROK as he tries to assimilate with a tribe in this new North American setting, protecting them from the Bionasaurs that attack, as well as enemy tribes.

Barry Windsor-Smith contributed the cover to #1, which is on embossed cardstock with a chromium strip and red foil logo and masthead! Bart Sears is the artist of issues #1 and 2, followed by Bernard Chang in #3 and Rags Morales in #4.
