TOWER OF SHADOWS was a horror/fantasy anthology published by Marvel Comics. It ran for 9 spooky issues from late 1969 through early 1971. It featured work by prominent members of the Marvel Bullpen, and stories from the likes of Roy Thomas, Gary Friedrich, Len Wein, Marv Wolfman, and Stan Lee himself!

The stories were generally hosted by 'Digger' , a gravedigger; 'Headstone P. Gravely', in undertaker garb; or one of the artists or writers. These first 4 issues of TOWER OF SHADOWS provide a creepy gallery of great art from all-stars like Jim Steranko, John Buscema, Neal Adams, Don Heck, Gene Colan, Barry Windsor-Smith, Wally Wood and others.

Designed to compete with DC Comics' successful launches of HOUSE OF MYSTERY and HOUSE OF SECRETS, TOWER OF SHADOWS, like its companion Marvel comic CHAMBER OF DARKNESS, sold poorly despite this amazing roster of artists. After the 9th issue, the title was changed to CREATURES ON THE LOOSE, publishing a mixture of sword and sorcery features, horror/fantasy reprints, and the science-fiction werewolf feature "MAN-WOLF."

This is an attractive quartet of creepiness, all with strong bindings, supple pages, and no tears, creases or missing pieces -- we confidently grade them an aggregate 6.0 FN . . and as such, Overstreet values the four at a combined $64. But we think the less-SCARY price of $38 won't HORRIFY you as much! And our L•O•W shipping would make even a corpse smile!
