Item Description

TOP CAT was Hanna-Barbera's second prime-time animated half hour comedy (after THE FLINTSTONES), premiering in September of 1961.  It was patterned after the antics of actor Phil Silvers and his cast of Army misfits on the popular sitcom, SGT. BILKO.  It ran for one season of 30 episodes on ABC-TV on Wednesday nights, and then in endless Saturday Morning repeats for many, many years. 

Dell Comics started publishing the first of 31 issues less than 4 months after the show debuted.  Nearly every issue featured the artwork of animation veteran Phil De Lara almost exclusively.

All the artwork herein - 72 pages of lively cartooning - are De Lara's's handiwork. He was a DELL mainstay, and did hundreds and hundreds of pages of Disney, Walter Lantz and Hanna-Barbera comic books.

Here are the first two issues of the DELL TOP CAT run, each with 36 pages of TOP CAT, BENNY THE BALL, CHOO-CHOO, FANCY, SPOOK , BRAIN and OFFICER DIBBLE in 4 or 5 stories of their own, plus short stories of YAKKY DOODLE the little duckling, and AUGIE DOOGIE AND DOOGIE DADDY from the HUCKLEBERRY HOUND SHOW

These are two nice 61-year old copies, marred only by tiny cover stains, a noticeable spine roll, and a 1/4" tear on the cover of #2, -  leading to our judgement of a combined 4.5 VG+ for the pair, rather than something higher (issue #1 is in better shape than #2).  Overstreet says $53 for the pair . . but you can grab them both from us for $20!  They're the only ones here on HipComic!
