Item Description
MARVEL's biggest hit of Spring 1972, and the start of an enduring fan-favorite run, was TOMB OF DRACULA . Issue #4 arrived in September of that year with a cover by Neal Adams and 36 pages of Gene Colan's amazingly distinctive artistry! Written by Archie Goodwin, it follows the series outline developed by Roy Thomas . . . which was the perfect modern-day template for the revival of the classic horror story of ‘DRACULA'.Here in issue #4, in "Through A Mirror Darkly!", Ilsa Strangway comes to realize that the only way to regain the youthfulness she desires is to be turned into a Vampire, and asks DRACULA to do the honors! She bargains with him to convince him, and offers him the occult Black Mirror that she has acquired - a mirror that can transport the owner forward or backward in time!
Frank Drake, Rachel Van Helsing and Taj Natal are out to kill DRACULA, but arrive at the bunker where the coffins are kept just after DRACULA kills Ilsa and makes her a vampire. However, Ilsa is shocked to discover that her youth does not return and allows Rachel to kill her. DRACULA flees into Ilsa's Black Mirror and drags vampire hunter Taj with him!
Incredibly dynamic - and frightening! - artwork by the one and only Gene Colan!
This is a well-preserved copy of TOMB of DRACULA #4 - with a strong binding, pages free of toning, and no tears, creases or pieces missing. There are miniscule stress lines at the spine, and a bit of discoloration near the front cover edge.
We're conservatively calling this 52-year-old comic a 7.5 VF-. The Overstreet Price Guide tags this classic for this grade at $43 . . . but you can make it yours for just $35.
