Issue #2 arrived in May of that year with a cover by John Severin and 36 pages of Gene Colan's amazingly distinctive artistry! Written by Gerry Conway, it follows the series outline developed by Roy Thomas . . . and was the perfect modern-day template for the revival of the classic horror story of ‘DRACULA'.

The story is about Frank Drake, a distant descendant of Count Dracula, and heir to his castle in Transylvania. He travels there with his girlfriend Jeanie and friend Clifton Graves, only to find the castle in near ruins, and their presence viewed warily by the townspeople. Graves accidentally revives the long-dead DRACULA, who proceeds to terrorize Frank, Jeanie in both human and bat forms!

Here in issue #2, in "The Fear Within", Drake hunts DRACULA to avenge the vampire's act of turning his girlfriend into a creature of the night. Drake manages to steal DRACULA's coffin and spirit it away back to London, as bait to lure him into a trap. But things go poorly . . and Drake winds up killing his girlfriend/vampire Jeanie!
