Together, issues #339 and #340 tell the tale of the growing competativeness between THOR and and the mysterious BETA RAY BILL, both vying to be ODIN's one true son!!

In #339's "Something Old, Something New . .", BILL gains the powers of THOR, and ODIN has the dwarves of Asgaard create a hammer for BILL. The Lord of Asgaard then sends the alien and THOR into space to rescue BILL's people.

The story continues directly in #340's "Though HEL Should Bar the Way!", wherein we see THOR, SIF and BILL save the latter's people from vicious alien demons. ODIN subsequently gives BILL a civilian identity when he strikes his hammer on the ground.
