That was the all-in-caps sound made by the tremor that shook the Marvel universe in 1983 when artist WALT SIMONSON took over scripting and illustrating the THOR title with issue #337 and introduced the popular THOR stand-in character of alien BETA RAY BILL!

Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's famous creation of THOR first took place in 43 issues of JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY before the God of Thunder got his own title in THOR #126. Here, 17 and a half years later, THOR's title got new life!

WALT SIMONSON began his well-remembered and critically acclaimed 45-issue run on this series with this issue and the story, "DOOM!". In it, NICK FURY asks THOR's aid in investigating an alien ship heading for earth. THOR arrives and triggers the awakening of an alien protector, BETA RAY BILL. BILL bests THOR and takes up his hammer only to be accidentally summoned to Asgard by ODIN himself, who thinks he is summoning his son THOR!

On the cover, BETA RAY BILL smashes the THOR logo to pieces, and the following issue debuts SIMONSON's NEW THOR logo! He also introduces the character of LORELAI in this issue!

Terrific artwork and dynamic storytelling, written, pencilled and inked by SIMONSON at the peak of his talents!

This is a great copy of THOR #337, with normal toning for it's age of 41 years, but no foxing, and only minimal stress lines or edge wear. No ragged edges, creases, or pieces missing.

This copy may have been printed with dirty plates, as there are ink artifacts an printing defects on several pages. We conservatively grade this a 6.5 FN+. The Overstreet Guide feels $47 is appropriate for this issue in this condition - we feel $38 plus L•O•W $2 shipping is even MORE appropriate!
