The newest Herald of planet-eating GALACTUS, was a former space pilot who was transformed by GALACTUS into the superbeing FIRELORD in issue #227 . . . but here in issues #226 to #228 he is seen in his first adventure, alongside THOR, HERCULES, and GALACTUS himself as they band together to battle the threat to the universe that is EGO, THE LIVING PLANET!

In the three-part story, written by Gerry Conway and illustrated by the great John Buscema in #226 (and then Rich Buckler in the ensuing two issues), FIRELORD (who quickly became a fan favorite in 1974) is on Earth to pave the way for GALACTUS arriving in search of THOR's help in subduing the mad living planet, in "The Battle Beyond!". Able to corral HERCULES into helping the cause, they journey into space, and with GALACTUS' powers, are able to breach the atmosphere around EGO!

#227 gives you "In Search of EGO!", wherein THOR, FIRELORD and HERCULES fight their way across EGO's surface, battling EGO's humanoid constructs, and then into EGO's mind! THOR throws Mjolnir and strikes EGO's brain, causing a huge, extreme explosion!

"EGO: Beginning and End!" in #228, furthers the adventure on the living planet, with the explosion of EGO's mind from the previous issue obliterating EGO's minions, and the mad planet then beginning to project images into THOR's mind, telling him of his origins. Meanwhile GALACTUS had attached thrusters to EGO's south pole, and launches him into exile somewhere in the furthest reaches of the galaxy!

These 3 copies of THOR are in great shape for being 49 years old! There are no ragged edges, the bindings are strong, there is only minimal toning and the covers still have a gloss. There is, however a tiny piece missing from the bottom of #227's front corner, and the Marvel Value Stamps have been removed from #226 and #227. But the interiors are otherwise unaffected, and all these factors contribute to a conservative combined grade of 6.5 FN+ for the trio, for which Overstreet suggests an aggregate price of $28.
