Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's famous creation of The MIGHTY THOR first took place in 43 issues of JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY before the God of Thunder got his own title in THOR #126. Here are two issues of that long-running series from 1968 that feature the first two appearance of Kirby & Lee's creation of The MANGOG!

The MANGOG was described as being the sum total of the hatred of "a billion billion beings" - an alien race that once attempted to invade Asgard. He was originally thwarted by Odin, the ruler of Asgard, and imprisoned far beneath the Shining Kingdom, But as seen in these two issues, MANGOG was freed by the rock troll Ulik, in a failed bid to secure an ally against the gods. MANGOG storms Asgard, intent on drawing the Odinsword from its scabbard which will end the universe. Thor battles Mangog to a standstill, until Odin dissolves the creature by breaking the spell which had created MANGOG as a living prison for his entire race.

You get customarily terrific JACK KIRBY artwork throughout these 72 pages, with the two stories "To Wake The Mangog!" and "Now Ends The Universe!", with lots of sword-swinging and hammer-throwing!

These are two nice and supple 54-year old comics, with normal toning but no foxing, strong bindings and good color! There is a small 3/8" hole in the back coverthat does not affect the interior. We're grading these a conservative composite 5.5 FN-. The Overstreet Guide feels $30 is appropriate for the pair - we feel $24, plus our L•O•W shipping charge for two comics, is even MORE appropriate!
