Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's famous creation of THOR first took place in 43 issues of JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY before the god of thunder got his own title in THOR #126. Here are two early issues of that long-running series in collectable 4.0 VG condition!

In "The Growing Man!" in #140, we're introduced to The Growing Man, a creation of Kang the Conqueror, who goes on a rampage in New York City while constantly increasing in size and destructive power! THOR stops the destruction and halts Kang's and the Growing Man's attempt to escape Earth by sending their Time Machine into limbo! Great artwork by Jack Kirby and Vince Coletta! In the 'TALES of ASGARD' back-up feature that appeared in over 20 consecutive issues, Kirby and Colletta tell the tale of Thor and his companions defeating the Jinni Devil in "The Battle Begins!"

In issue #141, Slugger Sykes and the scientist Chuda are working together to find a means to destroy Thor. Chuda shows Slugger his latest invention: REPLICUS, an android that can adapt to any situation and can hypothetically defeat Thor in battle. Chuda activates the robot and the two prepare it for its mission to destroy Thor. (it does not go well for them!) In 'TALES OF ASGARD' Thor and companions invade Mogul's stronghold in "Alibar and the Forty Demons!"

These are two really nice and supple 53-year old comics, with normal toning but no foxing, a few ragged page edges, and only minimal stress lines or edge wear. There is some scratching or abrasion on the cover of #140, and a 2 1/2" tear on the back cover of #141. . and that lead us to grading these a composite 4.0 VG. The Overstreet Guide feels $32 is appropriate for the pair - we feel $12 plus our L•O•W shipping is even MORE appropriate! ••• And there is no further postage charge if you buy more items, so load up on some of our other Silver Age Marvels, if that's your thing!
