Here is the complete miniseries,THE UNTOLD LEGEND OF THE BATMAN from 1980. It was only the second miniseries published by DC Comics, and the first starring BATMAN. Written by Len Wein, the first issue was penciled by John Byrne and inked by Jim Aparo. The second and third issues were drawn entirely by Aparo, and José Luis García-López drew the covers for the entire series.

The primary plot elements of the story are retellings of the origins of several BATMAN characters.

In issue #1, Wein and Byrne offer up "In The Beginning", BRUCE WAYNE receives in the mail the remnants of the BATMAN costume his father once wore and discovers its empty display case adorned with a threatening note! The Caped Crusader recalls the events that led to his becoming BATMAN and his earliest cases where he met JAMES GORDON and brought the people responsible for his parents' deaths to justice.

In #2, "With Friends Like These . . " tells how ROBIN joins BATMAN's search for the person who stole his father's costume, and recalls his own origin and early life as both ROBIN and Bruce Wayne's ward. ALFRED, too, recalls how he came to work for Bruce Wayne and for BATMAN. Meanwhile, BATMAN begins to review his many enemies, including the JOKER and TWO-FACE, but is nearly taken out by a booby-trapped Batmobile!

Issue #3 wraps things up with "The Man Behind The Mask", wherein ROBIN secures a new Batmobile for the duo, and BATMAN looks for leads from his usual contacts, but is haunted by the ghosts of his past . . . but is finally finally able to exorcise them.

(In 1989, this series was reprinted in smaller format as a premium for BATMAN BREAKFAST CEREAL!!)
