Stan Lee creates another angst-filled story and John Buscema turns in another gorgeous and emotional art job in SILVER SURFER #16.

"In the Hands of . . MEPHISTO!", the SILVER SURFER is overcome with a premonition of danger as he soars over the Earth. This is for good reason, as MEPHISTO is once more planning an attempt to steal the SILVER SURFER's soul (hoping the third time is the charm!).

MEPHISTO travels to Earth, disguising himself in human clothes until he can call forth the SILVER SURFER. He quickly tires of the humans and creates a violent storm to ward off the crowds. MEPHISTO then summons the SURFER to come to him and gives the SURFER what he wants most: freedom from GALACTUS' barrier!

While suspicious of MEPHISTO's real intent, the SURFER is surprised to finally be able to leave the Earth. He quickly returns to Zenn-La, but is shocked to find that his beloved SHALLA-BAL has been captured by MEPHISTO.

Returning to Earth, the two engage in an intense battle, and MEPHISTO tells the SURFER that the longer he resists him, the more SHALLA-BAL will suffer. MEPHISTO orders him to destroy S.H.I.E.L.D. so that SHALLA-BAL may live.

Buscema's powerful and fluid artwork is amazing to see!

This is a clean and solid copy of SILVER SURFER #16 with a good firm binding, and supple pages. The 53-year-old pages show very little toning. Colors are bright, and there is a modest sheen to the cover. No creases, tears, or pieces missing. We're calling it an 8.0 VF, and Overstreet puts a value of $70 on it. How does the Benny's Comics Corner price tag of $55 sound?? Pretty good? And we'll even throw in possibly the lowest shipping charges here on HipComic!
