The NEW MUTANTS were a group of mutant superheroes, debuting in 1982 and written by Chris Claremont chronicling a young teenaged 'junior' class at the same institute as the X-MEN. It featured an ensemble cast, with stories often focused on interpersonal relationships and coming-of-age arcs, blending teen drama with action and adventure. The title was later taken over by writer Louise Simonson . . . and ultimately took a more action-oriented focus under artist Rob Liefeld, who relaunched the characters as X-Force following the series' end. Here is the final issue of The NEW MUTANTS.

Issue #100, written and illustrated by Liefeld, wraps up their adventures as New Mutants and ushers them into the formation of X-FORCE. In "The End of the Beginning", SHATTERSTAR (making his debut appearance) shows up in the Danger Room and the NEW MUTANTS have to help him defeat MOJO's Soldiers. FERAL also arrives at the Mansion and CABLE helps get MASQUE off her back. Agreeing to try CABLE's new proactive stance in the mutant struggle, the NEW MUTANTS leave X-Mansion behind and officially become X-FORCE.
