THE NEW 52 was the 2011 revamp and relaunch by DC COMICS of its entire line of ongoing monthly superhero comic books. Following the conclusion of the "Flashpoint" crossover storyline, DC canceled all of its existing titles and debuted 52 new series in September 2011 with new first issues as a partial reboot.

Here are two first issues of the Volume 2 reset of both BATMAN and DETECTIVE COMICS.

in BATMAN #1, BATMAN battles a whole host of villains incarcerated in ARKHAM ASYLUM, but set free within the gates of the Asylum to battle Batman by a corrupt prison guard. Included in the attack against Batman are CLAYFACE (BASIL KARLO), KILLER CROC, MISTER FREEZE, MISTER ZSASZ, PROFESSOR PYG, RIDDLER, SCARECROW, TWO-FACE, and BIG TOP. Batman appears to free the Joker, who works with him. In fact it is DICK GRAYSON in disguise! Art is by Greg Capullo.

In DETECTIVE COMICS #1, Batman is on the hunt for the JOKER, who he has associated with over 114 murders. Meanwhile, a nude Joker fights a man who is wearing a mask made out of human skin. Batman battles the Joker, the fight escalating until the Gotham PD attempts to arrest him! Story and Art by Tony Daniel.
