Just like he is seen rising up out of the swamp on the cover, THE MAN-THING #1 from 1979 rose up from past appearances, dating back to 1971, to headline his own title. THE MAN-THING's Volume 2 run spanned 11 issues from 1979 - 1981. Here are the first two issues of that run.

MAN-THING was created by Stan Lee, Roy Thomas and Gray Morrow for the black and white magazine Savage Tales and appeared in SAVAGE TALES #1. The character was a large, slow-moving, empathic, humanoid swamp monster living in the Florida Everglades near a Seminole reservation and the fictitious town of Citrusville. He was created when young biochemist DR. THEODORE "TED" SALLIS was working in the Everglades with a group attempting to recreate the Super-Soldier Serum that had created Captain America. A car crash into the swamp sees him emerge as the monstrous and mute, MAN-THING!

Here are the first two issues of the title's 1979 return. In #1, "Regeneration -- and Rebirth" , foreign agents abduct a colleague of Ted Sallis in the hopes of learning the secret behind the 'Super Soldier' serum that were working on at the time of Sallis' transformation.

And in #2, "Himalayan Nightmare!" offers quite a jump from the events in #1. The MAN-THING is wandering the swamp one day when he happens upon two scientists about to test out a new teleportation ray. When they spot the quag-beast, they shoot him with the device, which transports the MAN-THING to the Himalayan mountains, where the muck-monster fights off a horde of wolves and saves a mountain-climbing couple.
