The HUMAN TORCH is probably the 'oldest' of Marvels superheroes to be part of modern continuity, being created back in 1939 by writer/artist carl Burgos. In the Golden Age he was an android, but starting in the Silver Age he was resurrected and retooled as a brash young man and a founding member of THE FANTASTIC FOUR.

Here in the 1970s series named 'THE HUMAN TORCH', Marvel presented reprints of HUMAN TORCH solo stories from STRANGE TALES, and starting with this issue, tales from the GOLDEN AGE!

In this second issue of the 1974 series, inside the cover by Johnny Romita, you get the first appearance of the villain THE WIZARD in "Prisoner of the Wizard!" (originally done for STRANGE TALES #102 in 1962) and illustrated by the great Jack Kirby, in which JOHNNY STORM is trapped and imprisoned by the vengeful WIZaRD - who disguises himself as the TORCH and commits crime around town, but is found out and exposed by Johnny and led off to prison.

The back-up story, from THE HUMAN TORCH #30 of 1948, gives us "The Hyena Strikes!", wherein truck crashes are being caused by the criminal THE HYENA. Although the company manager, advises Lorraine Miller, the company owner, to sell out, she's determined not to, and accepts help from THE TORCH and TORO. Following another crash, they capture 2 of the hijackers, and Lorraine figures someone inside the company tipped them to the truck's secret route! The TORCH and his sidekick barely manage to save her life and capture the villains.

This is a really nice, great-looking and solid copy of the 48-year-old THE HUMAN TORCH #2, with a strong binding, glossy covers, supple pages and bright color. The pages have very little toning for a Bronze Age comic, and no foxing. Overstreet offers a value of $15 for an 8.0 VF copy . . . but we think $3 is a much more reasonable price, and with our always-LOW shipping, gives you this issue at the best price on HipComic!!
