THE ETERNALS were a race of humanoids who are described as an offshoot of the evolutionary process that created sentient life on Earth. The original instigators of this process, the alien Celestials, intended the Eternals to be the defenders of Earth, which leads to the inevitability of war against their destructive counterparts, the Deviants. They'll soon join the Marvel Cinematic Universe with their own feature film ETERNALS, which is directed by Chloé Zhao, and scheduled to be released on November 5, 2021.

Jack Kirby created the ETERNALS on his return to Marvel after a stint at DC when his 'FOURTH WORLD' opus was cancelled. Many aspects of his ETERNALS backstory are tangential to concepts he originated at DC.

In ETERNALS ANNUAL #1, "The Time Killers", written and illustrated by Kirby, Zuras discovers that the Deviant scientist Zakka has used his inventions to snatch warriors from different time periods - including Jack the Ripper! - and is using them to commit acts of chaos in major cities. Zuras assigns THENA, KARKAS and REJECT to find Zakka and stop him.

One threat comes from a pack of Mongol warriors who once fought under the leadership of Atilla the Hun, and there are crescendoing battles for Thena and her allies, until Zakka is stopped and his evil time projector destroyed!

52 pages of energy and chaos by Jack Kirby and his favorite inker, Mike Royer.

This is a really nice, terrific-looking and solid copy of THE ETERNALS ANNUAL #1, with a strong binding, glossy covers, supple pages and bright color, with the only blemish being a rough edge to the top of the front cover. The pages have very little toning for a 44-year-old comic, and no foxing. Overstreet prices this issue, in 8.0 VF condition, at $10 - and that was long before the ETERNALS big-screen movie was announced and other sellers were raising their prices. Not us! - it's just $9 here in Benny's Comics Corner, with maybe the lowest shipping charge on HipComic!
