THE ETERNALS are a fictional race of humanoids who are described as an offshoot of the evolutionary process that created sentient life on Earth. The original instigators of this process, the alien Celestials, intended for the ETERNALS to be the defenders of Earth, which leads to the inevitability of war against their destructive counterparts, the DEVIANTS. They have now joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with their own feature film 'ETERNALS', directed by Chloé Zhao, and starring a large cast featuring Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie.

Jack Kirby created the ETERNALS upon his return to Marvel after a stint at DC when his 'FOURTH WORLD' opus was cancelled. Many aspects of his ETERNALS backstory are tangential to concepts he originated at DC

In "The Celestials!", in issue #2, written and illustrated by Kirby, a massive ship from outer space hovers above the so-called "City of the Space Gods". Kro openly challenges the power of these beings and quickly finds himself fleeing from a blast of cosmic energy projected by the ship. The structure begins to quake from the blast and the walls start collapsing around Ikaris, Margo and Doctor Damian. Ikaris races to a chamber called the Resurrection Crypt and awakens one of the ETERNALS - Ajak, he who is also known as Tecumotzin. Ajak and his followers quickly prepare the coming of their gods - the CELESTIALS. He activates a ceremonial pylon to receive the first of these galactic beings. A giant alien descends from the space ship and comes to rest on the pylon. This is Arishem, leader of the Fourth Host of the CELESTIALS!

In issue #3 Kirby presents "The Devil in New York!", wherein the CELESTIALS arrival continues. Arishem takes his place upon the ceremonial pylon where he will stand in judgment over humanity over the next fifty years. The temple of the God Chamber starts to quake and all flee. Kro meanwhile, returns to the kingdom of the DEVIANTS where he suffers immense torture at the hands of DEVIANT leader Brother Tode and is punished for his failure to prevent Ikaris from activating the Cosmic Beacon that summoned the CELESTIALS. Ikaris brings Margo back to the United Statesand takes her to the penthouse apartment of another ETERNAL, Sersy. He asks Sersy to care for Margo while he goes off to battle the DEVIANTS.

As he flies off, Kro's DEVIANT armies ravage Manhattan, setting the entire city ablaze! Terrified humans look up into the sky and see the face of "the Devil" staring down upon them.

You also get Jack Kirby on the letters page, ETERNAL UTTERINGS, where he discusses some of his beliefs about aliens!

These are really nice, terrific-looking and solid copies of THE ETERNALS #2 and #3, with strong bindings, glossy covers, supple pages and bright color. The pages have very little toning for being 45-year-old comics, and no foxing. Theses issues - due to the new MARVEL film - have recently skyrocketed in price as dealers try to cash in, and consequently Overstreet prices are not really applicable . . . but we think $77 is a reasonable price for these 2, regardless of the many sellers in the marketplace offering lesser quality copies of these issues with inflated price tags!! The best you can do elsewhere on HipComic, for these two issues, is $110!!

And we haven't seen any of them offering FREE SHIPPING like we do!
