Charles Vess' delicately beautiful and flowing art - that looks like it was born in another century - is on display in this first issue of THE BOOK OF BALLADS AND SAGAS. Vess self-published this through his Green Man Press, and his black and white pen and brush work is absolutely lovely to behold!Vess illustrates four tales of fantasy by four different authors, including Neil Gaiman. Vess' slightly different styles mesh perfectly with "Thomas the Rhymer" (seen on the front cover), "The False Knight on the Road", Skade", and "The Music of Fairy". Vess includes text pages with illustrations, including a self-portrait at his drawing board.
