The BLACK DRAGON rose from the Medieval past as a six-issue limited series from Marvel's EPIC imprint in 1985. With a story by Chris Claremont (riding high at the time because of his acclaimed work on X-MEN) and covers and interior artwork by John Bolton (the British comic book artist and illustrator most known for his dense, painted style), the story followed the exploits of a brave knight in the court of Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine.

The Middle Ages, specifically soon after the Norman Invasion of Britain, come to life in this stirring six-issue fantasy tale of James Dunreith, the BLACK DRAGON! Sir James was a British nobleman pledged to serve his monarch, but his oath clashes with his loyalty when Queen Eleanor seeks out treachery in the realm &mdash and her prime suspect is Sir James's best friend!

Horror piles upon unholy horror as Sir James stumbles upon a village victimized by unspeakable atrocities!  Robin Hood guest stars in issue #2 as the plot against the crown continues. The plotter's demonic power is thrown against the only mortal who can threaten the rebellion &mdash the queen's agent and last hope for medieval England: James Dunreith, THE BLACK DRAGON!

Issue #4 presents the forces of light versus the dark evil of shadow. Robin Hood and his men are enlisted, as well as the folk of Faery to oppose the demon legions of Edmund De Valere ... only to learn that The BLACK DRAGON has been sorcerously made a part of those rampaging demon hordes!

Sir James must choose between his own life, happiness and safety, and the preservation of the land itself . And in the final issue, The BLACK DRAGON, Robin Hood and his merry men, Eleanor of Aquitaine and the Faeries fight against the usurper . . and the REAL BLACK DRAGON!

An incredible and rousing adventure, with nearly photo-realistic art by Bolton, very much in the vein of Hal Foster’s ‘PRINCE VALIANT’ work!
