* The symbiote costume was designed by a Marvel fan from Illinois named Randy Schueller. Editor-In-Chief Jim Shooter purchased the design idea from Randy for $220

Note that this issue ties with Marvel Team up 141 as the first black costume appearance. Also note that Spectacular Spiderman 90 was contemporaneously in line with asm 252 also.OF course MARVEL SUPER HEROES SECRET WARS 8 is where the costume or alien symbiote transformation occurred.

GRADE VF+ 8.5

This issue is obviously in high grade with an overall close to new appearance.Defects are extremely minor but include a non 90 degree angle top right corner, with a faint corner crease. Bottom right corner is a solid 90 degrees,square and defect and crease free.There is a small white line near the top edge of the front cover.It is non palpable,and appears to be secondary to printing or impact .There are no big stress lines on the spine ,only a few 1/16" spine tics or micro stress lines (as some call these).The spine is intact with no splits or tears,other than the top end and bottom end which are bindery non completions.The staples are solidly in place with NO signs of staple stress lines.There are stress lines visible along the spine on the back cover,showing up on the black backround. Taken as a whole this is a flat tight copy with much original gloss and off white pages, and with enough minor defects to grade VF+ 8.5. This issue has already demonstrated a great investment potential, as it started out at $20.00 many years ago, and with the venom symbiote story line, has methodically continued to increase in value at a fairly rapid pace over the years.
