Item Description
In 1972 DC Comics obtained the rights to publishing the comic book adventures of the iconic character TARZAN from previous publisher Dell Comics, and from the estate of the character's creator, Edgar Rice Burroughs. None other than renowned artist JOE KUBERT was quickly signed to contribute his powerful art to this new series. Here are the first 4 issues of DC's TARZAN, comprising 208 pages of the retelling of TARZAN's origin, and including reprints of the stories from the 1930s-era Sunday Tarzan comics pages so beautifully illustrated by the legendary HAL FOSTER.
You also get 4 installments of MARV WOLFMAN and MURPHY ANDERSON's adaptation of Burrough's 'John Carter of Mars' epic.
These first four DC issues (resuming the numbering from Dell's last issue) tell TARZAN's origins, with scripts and terrific illustrations by KUBERT. He adapts the entire story, from Lord and Lady Greystoke being marooned by mutineers and their son, TARZAN, being raised by the great apes, to the young Greystoke's gorilla 'mother' being killed, and TARZAN exacting his revenge. Issues #3 and #4 detail TARZAN's first encounter with Jane Porter and their blossoming attraction.
These copies of DC's TARZAN are in really nice shape for their 50 years - they have had only minimal handling, the bindings are strong, there is very little toning, and no creases tears or pieces missing. We're conservatively grading this quartet at 7.0 FN/VF, for which Oversteet suggests combined a price of $66. . but we're asking only $42 here on HipComic for 208 pages of Jungle and Martian action!
And no one else can ship 4 comics as affordably as we can! PLUS - any additional comics you purchase ship for FREE!
