A little worse for wear, but still tight and clean, this TALES OF SUSPENSE #63 retells the origin of Captain America for the first time in the Silver Age, courtesy of Jack Kirby! In this retelling, President Roosevelt institutes the top-secret program, "Project Rebirth." In a secret lab, scientist Dr. Erskine gives army 4F reject and volunteer Steve Rogers the "Super-soldier serum," which turns him into a virtual superman. Rogers becomes the costumed Captain America, as a symbol of freedom, and begins a career of smashing spy rings and saboteurs and takes on young Bucky Barnes as his sidekick!

The lead story features Iron Man in "Somewhere Lurks the Phantom" by Stan Lee and Don Heck. Pepper and Happy are mourning Tony Stark's "death". Meanwhile, Stark builds a transistorized chest device that enables him to appear in public without his armor. Stark then leaves his lab, revealing that he is very much alive. This revelation causes Pepper to faint. Stark realizes that Happy loves Pepper. Stark then upsets an employee, Dr. Birch, by not making time to speak to him. Iron Man goes on to stop industrial saboteur the Phantom, who turns out to be an embittered Dr. Birch. Pepper and Happy go on a date. Tony is left alone to brood because he secretly loves Pepper too . [from the Grand Comics Database]

Two missing corners on the cover and a few ragged page edges reduce this to a grade of 3.0 GD/VG, but the art is unaffected throughout. A great reading copy - and you WILL want to read this one! The Overstreet Guide folks say $43 for this grade -- we think you'll be happy with a price of $16 and our L•O•W shipping costs!
