As a follow up to the popular 1983 4-issue mini-series SWORD OF THE ATOM, DC published three SPECIAL issues, annually from 1984 to 1986, furthering the events of the mini-series, which told of Ray Palmer and his wife Jean agreeing to a temporary separation that takes Ray to the Amazon to find a piece of white dwarf matter he believes landed there. When his plane crashes he is stuck at six inches tall and discovers a race of tiny people who live in the Amazon.

Here in SWORD OF THE ATOM SPECIAL #2, the premise is that ATOM's estranged wife, Jean Loring, is accidentally shrunk by one of THE ATOM's old devices to six inches in height and Norman Brawler and Paul Hoben take her to Brazil in search of the ATOM. At the same time, the ATOM is in search of the bird-riding Skul-Riders who have kidnapped Princess Laethwen on behalf of their master, Torbul.

Jan Strnad writes a many-layered story, and Gil Kane provides the dynamic and detailed artwork, bolstered by his 25-year association with the Silver Age ATOM.

This is a great-looking 52-page copy of SWORD OF THE ATOM SPECIAL #2 from 40 years ago - there are no creases, tears, pieces missing, or abnormal toning.
