As a follow up to the popular 1983 4-issue mini-series SWORD OF THE ATOM, DC published three SPECIAL issues, annually from 1984 to 1986, furthering the events of the mini-series, which told of Ray Palmer and his wife Jean agreeing to a temporary separation that takes Ray to the Amazon to find a piece of white dwarf matter he believes landed there. When his plane crashes he is stuck at six inches tall and discovers a race of tiny people who live in the Amazon.

Here in SWORD OF THE ATOM SPECIAL #1, the premise is that famous author Norman Brawler (a play on the name of then-current author/celebrity Norman Mailer) is writing a book about the ATOM's adventures in the Amazon when he once again visits the 6-inch tall tribe that had adopted him, and his new paramour, PRINCESS LAETHWEN, as they try to preserve their home against shady government involvement

Jan Strnad writes a many-layered story, and Gil Kane provides the dynamic and detailed artwork, bolstered by his 25-year association with the Silver Age ATOM.

This is a great-looking copy from 38 years ago - there are no creases, tears, pieces missing, or abnormal toning. The binding is strong, the colors are bright . . it's amazingly tight and sturdy, with good cover gloss!
