Item Description
SUPERMOUSE ("the Big Cheese") was one of Nedor's (Standard's) longest-running funny animal characters, having made his debut in COO COO COMICS n October 1942. This is the second issue of his own comic, from February of 1949! The character actually predated MIGHTY MOUSE, who was originally named Super Mouse as well, but a court ordered the name change!The 52 pages here in issue #2 contain three SUPERMOUSE stories, the first being drawn by his most memorable artist, Milton Stein. Also present are a 'Francois Feline' tale, by animator Gil Turner, and a 'Sooky' story by Disney gag writer Don 'Arr' Christensen.
What's extra cool is, there are three text story pages with Frank Frazetta illustrations at the top of each. He signed his distinctively-styled cartoons 'FRITZ'.
This nice, tight, 71-year-old perfect example of 1940s Funny Animal silliness has weathered well - pages are clean and not brittle or faded, and the binding is strong. The only blemish we note is a small piece out of the bottom of the front cover. Graded conservatively at Fine-. Overstreet says $46 for this condition . . but we'll let it go for $20!!
