JACK KIRBY's arrival at DC was the biggest comics news of 1970! I remember the excitement and speculation about just what he would do with the established DC characters . . . or new ones born of his limitless imagination! One of the titles was given to him to revitalize was SUPERMAN'S PAL, JIMMY OLSEN - a title that had been around since 1954 and desperately needed a breath of new life - exactly what KIRBY could provide!

Inside the cover by Neal Adams, Kirby both wrote and pencilled "The Mountain of Judgement!", with inking by Al Plastino (who redrew most of the Superman and Jimmy Olsen faces throughout the story). SUPERMAN, JIMMY OLSEN, the Newsboy Legion and the Outsiders journey to the Mountain of Judgment, a giant converted missile carrier which is the mobile home of the Hairies, another youth tribe. The Man of Steel discovers and neutralizes a bomb planted in the Whiz Wagon, intended to destroy the Hairies, JIMMY, and the Newsboys. All stay for a celebratory meal among the Hairies, not knowing that Morgan Edge is receiving orders from his master, DARKSEID - seen here FOR THE FIRST TIME in a brief cameo!!.

There's also a one-page text feature, "The Whiz Wagons Are Coming!" an article on The Whiz Wagon with a Kirby self-portrait illustration.

This is a great-looking copy of one of the foundational titles of Kirby's 'Fourth World' opus . . and the first peek at the ominous villain who would come to terrorize most of the DC Universe! The binding is strong, the pages are supple and bright, there are no splits, tears, separations, or pieces missing; not even any stress lines! We conservatively grade it a 7.0 FN/VF.
