The great Curt Swan provides the cover art and interior illustrations for "Clark Kent Abandons Superman!". Cary Bates writes the tale about a death that Superman is unable to prevent, and which leads him to reconsider his role as a super-hero. He leaves Earth and builds a new life as Clarken, a scientist, on a red-sun world where he has no super-powers. He even falls in love with a beautiful woman! But, when he has to defeat a would-be dictator on that planet, he remembers the thrill of battle, Truth, Justice, and the American Way and decides to return to Earth.

There is also a reprint story included: "The Jolly Jailhouse" from SUPERMAN #139, 9 years previous. In the story illustrated by Al Plastino, Clark is sent to a small country in the throws of a dictator's take over. He is arrested, and helps his fellow inmates turn the tables on the dictator, and see him locked up instead!

This is a pretty attractive copy of one of DC's late Silver Age best sellers. It would be only another 10 months until the last of the 12¢ issues! It's in great shape for being 53 years old, with a strong binding, minimal toning, and no visible faults or blemishes! We grade it a solid 8.5 VF+.
