As told by Roy Thomas in "In The Rage of Battle!", John Buscema powerfully illustrates the adversarial encounter between NAMOR and the Fantastic Four's Ben Grimm - The THING! Continuing from issue #7,

NAMOR and Diane Arliss nurse Lady Dorma back to health. NAMOR tells of another woman he loved, Betty Dean, whom he met decades ago and who had convinced him to fight against the Nazis in WW2 and we see flashbacks of his 1940s exploits. Meanwhile, the THING is hired to deliver Destiny's Helmet of Power to Washington. SUB-MARINER intercepts him because he's concerned that its power is too much for anyone to handle. Their battle rages on until an older Betty Dean appeals to NAMOR to stop the violence. NAMOR defeats the THING and leaves to dispose of the helmet.

This is a well-preserved copy of SUB-MARINER #8 with a strong binding and minimal toning of its 53-year-old pages! There are very minor faults with the cover: very small, almost unnoticeable dimples. It still has great eye-appeal and that leads us to grading this an 8.0 VF. The Overstreet Guide feels $73 is appropriate (because of The THING guest-starring and cameos by Human Torch, Goliath and Vision) -- but we feel $56 plus our L•O•W shipping is even MORE appropriate! ••• And remember - there is no further postage charge if you buy additional items, so load up on some of our other Silver Age Marvels, if that's your thing!
