Item Description

Here's the fourth issue of PRINCE NAMOR'S own title: SUB-MARINER #4 from summer of the tumultuous year of 1968. I have such fond memories of poring over this issue on my lunch breaks from my summer lifeguarding job. Being near water all day really made NAMOR relatable for me!

As told by Roy Thomas in "Who Strikes for Atalantis?", and illustrated powerfully by John Buscema, the Atlanteans are wandering in search of a new home and are attacked by ATTUMA and his barbarian hordes. Barbarian scouts bring NAMOR to ATTUMA's court, where he sees that his Atlanteans have already been made into slaves. NAMOR challenges ATTUMA, who dons an electrically charged suit of armor. Observing this, his men see that he is a man who fights without honor, and they begin to question whether he should be their leader. One barbarian named Gorgul decides to free the Lady Dorma and shows her how she can destroy the machine powering ATTUMA's armor. Once this is done, NAMOR defeats him and forces the barbarians to flee, leaving NAMOR free to continue his search for the villainous Destiny.

This is a well-preserved copy of SUB-MARINER #4 with a strong binding and minimal toning of its 53-year old pages! There are very minor faults with the cover: a bent corner, along with very small, almost unnoticeable dimples and stress lines. It still has great eye-appeal and that leads us to grading this a 7.5 VF-. The Overstreet Guide feels $40 is appropriate -- we feel $20 plus our L•O•W shipping is even MORE appropriate! ••• And remember - there is no further postage charge if you buy additional items, so load up on some of our other Silver Age Marvels, if that's your thing!
