PRINCE NAMOR, THE SUB-MARINER was actually the 'grand daddy' of the whole MARVEL comics line, being the first SuperAntihero published in the 1940s by what would later become Marvel comics! It wasn't until the late 1960s that he was able to earn his own title once more, after making several guest appearances in comics like DAREDEVIL, FANTASTIC FOUR and TALES TO ASTONISH.

Here in issue #19 from late 1969 you get "Support Your Local Sting Ray!", from the typewriter of Roy Thomas, the pencils of Marie Severin, and the brush and pen of EC great, Johnnu Craig. On it, NAMOR learns that he has lost his ability to fly and to breath underwater. Taken by surprise, he's captured by the costumed adventurer STING-RAY and turned over to the authorities. The SUB_MARINER escapes, but is pursued by STING-RAY until he's able to convince the costumed heavy that he isn't as evil as the government claims.

There is an incredible splash page by Marie Severin with the likenesses of the MARVEL staff and Bullpen, including Stan Lee, John Romita, Herb Trimpe, Roy Thomas, Bill Everett, Sol Brodsky, and Jack Kirby, among many others!

This is a good-looking copy of SUB-MARINER #19, with a strong binding and minimal toning of its 54-year old pages! There is still a nice gloss to the cover . . but there is a small bit of grease pencil marking on the cover, as well as knicked corners We'll conservatively grade it a 4.0 VG. The Overstreet Price Guide feels $8 is appropriate -- we feel $5 plus our LOW shipping cost is even MORE appropriate -- and the very best price here on HipComic for this early SUB-MARINER!!
