PRINCE NAMOR, THE SUB-MARINER was actually the 'grand daddy' of the whole MARVEL comics line, being the first SuperAntihero published in the 1940s by what would later become Marvel comics! It wasn't until the late 1960s that he was able to earn his own title once more, after making several guest appearances in comics like DAREDEVIL, FANTASTIC FOUR and TALES TO ASTONISH.

Here are two great issues from the SUB-MARINER's first year of publication, and the last year of the 1960s! As told by Master Ret-Con Genius Roy Thomas and illustrated by the genuinely unique Gene Colan, you get the exciting two-part story wherein NAMOR battles both CAPTAIN BARRACUDA and KARTHON THE QUESTER. KARTHON tries to steal the Serpent Crown of Atlantis, and BARACUDA tries to destroy Atlantis with a nuclear torpedo. But NAMOR knows how to handle both of them!!

These are two nice copies of first-year SUB-MARINER issues, with nicely glossy covers, strong bindings and minimal toning of their 54-year old pages! There is minor soiling and wrinkling on the back cover of #10, and a 1" split at the bottom of #11's front cover. But the interiors are unaffected, and we conservatively grade these copies an aggregate 5.0 VG/FN. The Overstreet Guide feels $30 is appropriate for the pair -- we feel $22 plus our LOW shipping cost is even MORE appropriate -- and the very best price here on HipComic for these two Silver Age Marvels!!
