Only 11 months before his acclaimed creation of SWAMP THING for DC comics, LEN WEIN put on his FEDERATION uniform and scripted this issue from the very first run of STAR TREK comic books, published by Gold Key.

Although the cover shouts, "George Washington is Alive and Well - Watch Out Mr. Spock!", the actual story inside is titled "The legacy of Lazarus!". In it, the crew of the ENTERPRISE visits a planet seemingly populated by every famous person from Earth's ancient past - including George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Helen of Troy (delighting Capt. Kirk, of course) and Emperor Nero. But they're not too friendly toward the starship visitors!

In reality they are all androids controlled by Alexander Lazarus, a mad Earth historian. Handsome artwork and excellent likenesses of the TV series stars by artist Alberto Giolitti!

This issue was the last of Gold Key's run to feature a photo cover, with Spock as he appeared in the acclaimed episode 'Amok Time'!

This is a great-looking, near-pristine copy, with a strong binding, supple pages, minimal toning, and no tears, stress lines, or pieces missing. Possibly a dimple on the cover - it's hard to actually be certain! We grade it a solid 8.5 VF+.
