In the late 1940s, former Disney and Warner Bros. animator, the über-talented JACK BRADBURY, decided to trade in his animator's pencil and try comic book work! His appealing and active characters, as well as his beautiful brush work, were soon showing up - increasingly - in the Funny Animal Comics of the day - HA HA, GIGGLE, BARNYARD, GOOFY, etc.

Writing and illustrating his own stories and continuing characters, he soon was offered his own comic book, and SPUNKY, JUNIOR COWBOY, with STANLEY, THE TALKING HORSE became a newsstand standout!

Here is the second issue of SPUNKY - 36 pages of comic action and 6 clever stories, drawn by the man who was hailed at Disney as "the best 4-legged hoofed-animal animator we have!" You'll find SPUNKY himself, his friend CORA SUE, his family, his pal L'IL INJUN and others - and of course STANLEY the horse himself, SPUNKY's beloved 'best pal'! Even the villain FISHEYE CARP shows up in one story!

Plus, there is a 2-page text story with two illustrations by famed artist Frank Frazetta, who draws Bradbury's characters in his own style!

For a 76-year-old comic, this copy of SPUNKY #2 is in pretty good shape - with a strong binding (which has been touched up slightly and unobtrusively), minimal toning, and no foxing. There are no tears, creases, ragged page edges, or pieces missing. There is a slight discoloration to the cover at upper right, and a tiny bit of soiling on the back cover.

Overall, we conservatively rate this copy as a 5.5 FN-. The Overstreet Price Guide assigns a value of $38 for this condition . . but we want you to enjoy Jack Bradbury's work as much as we do, and are offering this great comic for just $23 . . with our always - L•O•W shipping of just $2!
