Item Description
Winner of the 1969 ALLEY AWARD for the Best Full-Length Comic Book Story, " - - And Who Shall Mourn Him?" combined the talents of Stan Lee, John Buscema and Sal Buscema in this 68-page SILVER SURFER #5!It tells of Norrin Rad, the SILVER SURFER, breaking into the Fantastic Four's Baxter Building and steal's Reed Richard's latest creation - a device he hopes will allow him to penetrate GALACTUS' barrier. But it unexpectedly explodes and sends the Surfer falling back to Earth from space. He is found by Al Harper, who helps him build another device, and sends the Surfer back into
But he is forced to return after meeting THE STRANGER and finding out that he intends to destroy Earth. The Surfer fights THE STRANGER as Harper finds the alien's planet-destroying bomb. He defuses it, but dies in the process. THE STRANGER leaves and the Surfer remains - once again - stuck on Earth.
There is also a WATCHER story, "Run, Rocco, Run", by Stan Lee and Howard Purcell, about a career criminal traveling to Jupiter to live after hearing that the judges there are soft on crime!
Interestingly, this issue contains a letter to the editor from Wendy Fletcher - better known as Wendy Pini, the artist/creator of ELFQUEST! Richard Dini saw this letter, started corresponding with her, they met, fell in love, and married!
This is a good-looking copy of this 52-year old comic, with a strong binding, supple pages, and minimal toning. No tears, abrasions, or ragged edges, save for a 2" split at the bottom of the spine It all adds up to a conservative grade of 6.0 FN, for which Overstreet suggests a price of $36.00. We're going to offer this Silver Age Surfer for $28 . . with our always-L•O•W shipping of just $2!
And no extra shipping charge for additional purchases!
