So went the famous opening lines of The SHADOW radio dramas of the 1930s and 40s, starring the mysterious character and his network of spies and aides that were fearsome forces for good in the crime-ridden streets and alleys of New York City from the Depression onward. The radio drama created a great demand for more of the SHADOW and Henry William Ralston, of Street & Smith publishing, commissioned Walter B. Gibson to begin writing stories about "The SHADOW." Thus was born the twice-monthly SHADOW 'pulp' magazines that continued for 20 years.

Simultaneously, Street & Smith published 'SHADOW COMICS' , spotlighting the SHADOW, of course, but also bringing extra exposure to their other 'superhero/crime fighters', like DOC SAVAGE and NICK CARTER - both seen in this issue of SHADOW COMICS.

SHADOW COMICS Vol 9 #3 (whole number 99) came out in the early summer of 1949 and was only three issues away from the end of the series, which began in 1940. Its 52 pages carry four 'rock 'em sock 'em' crimefighter stories, starring The SHADOW in "The Shadow's Shadow", DOC SAVAGE in "The Fault Finder", NICK CARTER in "Faces of Crime" (all three illustrated by cover artist Bob Powell), and CHICK CARTER in "The Case of the Black Satin Kid". All were written by prolific author Walter Gibson, the chief scribe of the SHADOW's many adventures.

This is a beautiful and clean copy of SHADOW COMICS #99, with all 52 pages bright and colorful and strongly bound. No pieces missing or ragged edges - the cover is even glassy!

We're conservatively grading this copy at 8.0 VF - you may even think it deserves something higher once you see it! Overstreet assigns a value of $300 . . . but we're offering it for $220, a price you won't find elsewhere - even if you could find it! . . and it comes with FREE SHIPPING!
