SECRET ORIGINS volume 2 was an ongoing comic book series published from 1986-1990. It spanned a total of fifty issues. but unlike volume 1, this series did not reprint older material, instead providing fresh artistic interpretations of various characters, based upon the framework provided by their original authors.

Here in the 52-pg issue #39, you get "The Secret Origin of MAN-BAT", written by Jan Strnad and moodily illustrated by Kevin Nowlan. As originally told in DETECTIVE COMICS #400, Kirk Langstrom experiments on himself and turns into the angst-ridden MAN-BAT, with this being a significantly amplified and reimagined version.

The second feature, "The Myth of the Creation", appears as a counterpoint to the ongoing ANIMAL MAN series, and shows the yellow aliens who gave him his powers 10 years previously, have secretly returned to observe him and hopefully correct glitches in his powers created by the Final Crisis storyline!

This is a great-looking copy from 37 years ago - there are no creases, tears, pieces missing, or abnormal toning. The binding is strong, the colors are bright . . it's amazingly tight and sturdy, with good cover gloss!
