THE SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN was a black-and-white magazine-format series published beginning in 1974 furthering MARVEL's license with the Robert E. Howard estate to feature the Hyborian barbarian.

As a "magazine", SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN did not have to conform to the Comics Code Authority, making it a publication of choice for many illustrators. It soon became one of the most popular comic series of the 1970s and is now considered a cult classic. Roy Thomas was the editor and primary writer for the series' first few years (until issue 60), which featured art by illustrators such as Neal Adams, Dick Giordano, Barry Windsor-Smith, John Buscema, Alfredo Alcala, Jim Starlin, Al Milgrom, Pablo Marcos, and Walter Simonson. Painted covers were provided by such artists as Earl Norem, Bob Larkin, Boris Vallejo and for this issue - Joe Jusko!

Here in issue #100, you get the 50-page tale of "When A God Lives" scripted by Michael Fleisher, with a plotting assist by illustrator John Buscema (with inking by his favorite finisher, Ernie Chan). How much trouble can one gold figurine get CONAN into? Plenty! - in this special Anniversary issue he's pursued by the fiercest band of savage raiders you've even seen! Where it takes him - whom he meets - and whether he survives is all detailed within!

You also get the 10-page story, "The Gift", by Larry Yakata, June Brigman, and Armando Gil.

Despite its oversized dimensions (8" x 11") and age of 40 years, this copy is in great shape - nice white pages, glossy covers, and a strong binding. There is some roughness at the top edge of the front cover. We'll call it a 7.5 VF-, which the Overstreet Price Guide pegs at $5.50.
