BOOK-AND-RECORD SETS were a popular form of entertainment in the 1970s, consisting of a picture storybook (often in comic book format) and an accompanying recording (in the form of a vinyl record) to be played while following along with the book. The record and book complement each other, with the record usually a radio theater-style version of the story, and the book providing visuals and text to the story. Often a tone or other kind of cue in the recording will prompt the reader to turn pages.

PETER PAN RECORDS was a major player in producing these sets, and created 'POWER RECORDS' to specifically produce comic book-themed sets.  Here, from 1975, is their first product (after 12 outings with MARVEL characters) with a DC tie-in - 'BATMAN in "STACKED CARDS", which comes with a 20-page comic both written and illustrated by NEAL ADAMS!

The tale (also titled "Trumping the Joker" on the splash page) tells of the JOKER's escape from Arkham Asylum and his theft of a priceless Picasso painting. But fisticuffs and daring, BATMAN and ROBIN, subdue the JOKER and rescue the painting from a burning warehouse!  The tale is pretty basic, and the dialogue, which is repeated verbatim on the enclosed 45 rpm vinyl record, is a bit stilted and perfunctory, but perfect for kids to follow while looking at the comic! 

This is a terrifically clean copy of this bit of DC ephemera from the 1970s. The binding of the card stock cover is strong, the pages are supple and bright, there are no splits, tears, separations, or pieces missing - and the vinyl record itself appears to be in top condition (probably never played)! The record even has a light blue label - different from the yellow label seen in all other offerings of this set!  Overstreet values this Book and Record Set in this 8.0 VF condition at $35 . . . but we're offering it for just $28, along with our always-L•O•W shipping!
