__POLICE COMICS_ _was a comic book anthology title published by Quality Comics from 1941 until 1953. It featured short stories in the superhero, crime and humor genres. The first issue featured the debuts of Plastic Man, Phantom Lady, Human Bomb, and Firebrand, all of which are characters that would be published decades later by DC COMICS after it acquired QUALITY's properties. Jack Cole's popular PLASTIC MAN took over the cover and lead stories from issues #5-102. Other notable characters featured in POLICE COMICS include Will Eisner's The Spirit, in the form of reprints of the character's newspaper comic strips.

After the popularity of superhero comics waned, POLICE COMICS shifted with issue #103 (Dec, 1950) to more naturalistic detective and crime-themed stories. The series ended in October 1953 with issue #127.

Here in issue #28 from early 1944 in which you get 60 pages of that neat mix of Crime, Suspense, Superhero and Humor stories - something for everyone!  Jack Cole contributes a 15-page PLASTIC MAN tale as well as a one-page BURP THE TWERP gag page!  Will Eisner's THE SPIRIT is here in an 8-page story arc from his newspaper strip of 1940. There are 7 other stories as well, including characters like THE HUMAN BOMB, MANHUNTER, and FLATFOOT BURNS!

This is a nice copy of POLICE COMICS #28 with only moderate wear for being 77 years old!  It's in VG condition, with a strong binding and 60 supple pages! No pieces missing, tears or other major flaws - but there is a distinct musty smell to the pages. Overstreets values this issue in this condition at $120 . . but we're offering it for $101 - a price you won't find elsewhere - even if there WAS another copy here on HipComic!  And don't forget, it comes with FREE SHIPPING!
